Mares Regulators

In trying to understand a quality regulator one has to look at the innovations from the company. Mares regulators are one of the most innovative discoveries today. With 18 full time engineers on staff they are coming up with mind blowing technology. All Metal Technology Mares is the only company in the world that offers a complete range of regulators with a metal second stage. The second stage is created using special high-strength brass that is nickel- and chrome-plated for superior corrosion resistance. The metal second stages perform better in cold water thanks to their high thermal conductivity.
Two-Component Technology The second stage body, molded from high-strength techno polymers, is over-molded with a special elastomer that is highly abrasion resistant and provides a unified attractive appearance to the component.
Ultra light Technopolymer Technology
The exclusive high tech techno polymers used in the regulators are exceptionally rugged and lightweight, providing maximum comfort during use.

Spherical Core Seal System PATENTED

The first stage valve features a spherical seal for greater duration and safety. The SCS system practically erases the danger of violent and uncontrolled free-flow caused by abnormal wear on the seal valve.

DFC Dynamic Flow Control (patented)

Mares' first stages feature the exclusive DFC system, which minimizes intermediate pressure drop during the inhalation phase. The result? Considerably improved regulator performance - breathing is easier and there's less inhalation resistance. Thanks to this system, which guarantees improved and consistent intermediate pressure, simpler and more reliable second stages can be used for enhanced safety.

VAD Vortex Assisted Design (patented)

All Mares second stages offer the unique, patented VAD system (Vortex Assisted Design). This system eases breathing at all depths and is unrivaled on today's market. The working principle is very simple: air coming from the hose passes through the second stage valve and is conveyed directly to the mouthpiece through the by-pass tube. There is a "vortex" movement in the airflow inside the by-pass tube. Whenever this swirl occurs, the core of the vortex creates a low-pressure area. This low pressure helps keep the second stage diaphragm down while inhaling, thus increasing regulator sensitivity. Regulators with the VAD system offer improved performance and allow for very natural breathing.
Mesh Grid The grill design optimizes the flow of water around the second stage diaphragm, minimizing the likelihood of free-flow. The calibrated holes allow a large amount of water to flow through, while at the same time reducing undesirable dynamic effects, even when swimming against a strong current.

Anatomical Mouthpiece The Hypoallergenic silicone mouthpiece offers unparalleled comfort. It is designed to offer a safe seal with a minimum of jaw fatigue.
Super Soft Hose > Mares hoses have superior mechanical characteristics and noticeable softness. This results in greater reliability and maximum comfort for the diver.
Cold Water Diving (CWD) The following technical features make Mares regulators ideal for diving in punishing cold water conditions:

Balanced diaphragm first stages. The balanced diaphragm first stage design has amply proven itself ideal for cold water diving. For particularly demanding conditions, it can be fitted with a CWD kit, which completely isolates all of the moving parts of the first stage from contact with the water.

Second stages with VAD system. One of the main causes of ice forming in the regulator is the expansion of air inside the second stage case, which causes an abrupt drop in temperature. With the VAD system, this expansion takes place inside the by-pass tube and mouthpiece, reducing the likelihood of icing.

"All metal" second stages. Because of its thermal conductivity, the metal in the second stage limits the freezing effect.

EC Certification All Mares regulators have been examined and certified by Registered Test Centers in compliance with EEC Directive 89/686 - December 21, 2004 and tested according to the EN (European Norm) 250:2000 standard.

Proton ICE Extreme

Simply the best.
The lightest and most compact "all metal" regulator, it is also ideal for diving in very cold water. The oversized purge button is extremely easy to use, even while wearing thick neoprene gloves. The V32 first stage guarantees exceptional performance and optimum placement of the hoses, all at an especially light weight. The Proton Ice has been tested by the Notified Body INPP of Marseilles with binary (Heliox) and ternary (Trimix) mixtures to a depth of 100 m. The results are compliant with the recommendations of European Regulation EN 250. Breathing effort proved to be much lower than the regulation requires.
